Around the System - May 31

Triple-A: Durham 9, Scranton 1
Ivan Nova and Mark Melancon both got roughed up, and Scranton's offense couldn't put together much of anything behind them. Nova allowed six runs in his five innings before handing to Melancon, who let in two more on five hits and two walks in just one frame. Eduardo Nunez and David Winfree had a single and a double apiece. Winfree notched the lone RBI, and Nunez scored the run.

Double-A: New Hampshire 3, Trenton 0
Thunder, meet Kyle Drabek. He's very good at throwing a baseball toward the imaginary 3-D rectangle that is the strike zone. To illustrate, the Phillies prime piece of trade bait last season silenced Trenton's very good offense for eight innings, fanning four and walking one. Two of the four hits he allowed were to Kevin Mahoney, the team's new utility infielder. Austin Romine, who is on a 12-game hitting streak, and Dan Brewer collected the other knocks.
