Thunder, Reading open big series
This afternoon, the Thunder start their biggest series of the season, three games with the Reading Phillies the Eastern Division leaders. Fortunately, they'll send their three best starters to the hill: Dellin Betances, Manny Banuelos and Shaeffer Hall.
As it happens, the R-Phils will counter with their top trio: Josh Zeid, JC Ramirez and Austin Hyatt.
The Thunder are 4 1/2 games behind Reading in the EL East, and a sweep would obviously go a long way to re-establishing themselves as something more than a team that will fight to keep its head above the .500 mark.
To do so, Trenton will have to navigate around a fearsome Reading lineup that houses two of the league's best hitters: Cody Overbeck and Matt Rizzotti. To properly illustrate just how that pair has dominated the EL, here's a list of categories currently led by one or the other:
Home runs - Overbeck (9)
RBIs - Overbeck (24)
Doubles - Rizzotti (13)
Extra-base hits - Rizzotti (18)
Total bases - Rizzotti (63)
