Postgame Recap - Game 5

Final score: Portland 7, Thunder 1

Synopsis: After fighting all game, the Thunder threw this one away -- literally -- in the eighth inning. Addison Maruszak opened the frame with a throwing error, and Preston Claiborne did the same a batter later. By the time things were finished Trenton had allowed five runs, all unearned, and the Sea Dogs had their first win of the season all but in hand.

Key stat: The four errors, for one. On the other side of the coin, the Thunder did turn two double plays -- including one especially nifty one in the first inning -- that kept them in the ball game for seven innings. ... Abe Almonte also went hitless for the first time in a Thunder uniform.

Bright spots: Zoilo Almonte had another two hits, moving his batting average to a very nice .381, third on the team to Cody Johnson, who sits at .455, and Jose Pirela, who's at .429. Small sample sizes, I know, but how often do you get to talk about two .400 hitters?
