Huge night of promotions
A person within the organization told me the other day to expect moves within the week. And here they are:
Mason Williams (as he announced on the Twitter) has been bumped to Tampa. Joining him, as expected, will be catcher Gary Sanchez and outfielder Tyler Austin, the Yankees' lone Futures Game representative.
Of course, there need to be a few transactions to accommodate such a mass of moves. To make room at High-A, outfielders (and brief former Thunders) Rob Segedin and Neil Medchill, plus catcher J.R. Murphy have been bumped from Tampa to Trenton.
Thunder catcher Kyle Higashioka will be sent down to clear room at Trenton, and infielder Jose Toussen, catcher Tyson Blaser and outfielder Eduardo Sosa are being bumped back to Charleston.
Murphy with Tampa was hitting .257/.322/.374 with five longballs and 28 RBIs. In June however, those numbers picked up to .314/.355/.500, so that looks like a pretty deserved bump. Plus, the Yankees will still want him to catch every day with Sanchez on the way.
Segedin, who was with Trenton very briefly in 2010 but didn't play, is at .291/.358/.446 with 21 doubles, seven longballs and 49 RBIs.
Medchill was with Trenton briefly this year and is hitting a combined .243/.300/.412 with nine doubles, seven homers and 33 RBIs.

Higgy is solid in the field but needs to hit more to get farther than he already has. He's pretty young so plenty of time.
