Game 1: Thunder vs. Erie (Garcia injured)
First inning: Garcia accomplished two things -- he managed to stay healthy, and he worked around a single to record a scoreless first. He retired Andy Dirks on a grounder to first and got Cale Iorg to fly to center. Then, after Wilkin Ramirez dunked in a hit, Garcia got Michael Bertram to bounce into a fielder's choice.
Trenton went quietly in its half, going down 1-2-3 against Jon Kibler. The loudest out was made by Austin Romine, who lined hard to center.
Second inning: Once again, Garcia allowed a baserunner -- this time hitting Deik Scram with a pitch with one out -- but got the next two men, Santo De Leon and Max St. Pierre, to fly to center and ground softly in front of the plate.
Brandon Laird gave Kibler's first pitch a long ride, but it was caught in front of the track. Sublett followed with a swinging strikeout, and Reid Gorecki, fresh from Scranton, popped meekly to second.
Third inning: Garcia breezes through the SeaWolves, and the Thunder get on the board on Luis Nunez's infield single and Austin Krum's gapper into right-center field.
Fourth inning: Garcia fans the first two, walks Cesar Nicolas, then gets a lineout from Scram on the next pitch. Laird shoots a single to center for his first Double-A hit, but the Thunder strand him. 1-0 Thunder after 4.
Sixth inning: Garcia has left with an injury. He left in the middle of a hitter, so there's almost no question it was serious. This puts a serious hole in Trenton's rotation and puts serious doubts on the idea that Garcia will ever cash in on his boundless potential. The man just cannot stay healthy.
Sorry for delay in posting, but I had newspaper work to do. Final is 4-0, Thunder.
