Kevin Mahoney coming to Trenton

Well, with all this early stiffness, there just had to be a player move, didn't there?

Mike Ashmore got it first (damn my falling asleep for a few hours), and a source confirmed his report a little while ago that utilityman Kevin Mahoney is coming up to Trenton (well, he's probably heading to Akron) to join the Thunder.

Same source says Mahoney will probably playing first base while here, which seems to indicate that Lyerly's arm stiffness is more serious than previously thought or indicated. That still leaves questions as to what they're going to do at second base given Pirela and Adams' injuries. Somebody's got to be there in case something happens to Maruszak.

Let's say Pirela and Adams are both unavailable on Thursday. Here are the Thunder's available infielders:

Kevin Mahoney
Ronnier Mustelier
Addison Maruszak
Walter Ibarra

That's really it. Dan Brewer and Jose Gil are capable of playing first base if need be, and Mahoney can play just about anywhere on the infield, so that's what might happen if one of those four breaks down. Basically, the team is going to have to go Han Solo-style and encase every infielder in Carbonite for a while to make sure no more shenanigans occur.

Mahoney, a Canisius product, was with Trenton briefly in 2010, when he was 4 for 15 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
