Thunder transactions galore

(Trenton, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that INF Kevin Mahoney and LHP Francisco Rondon have been sent to Trenton from Class A-Advanced Tampa.  Mahoney played in two games with Tampa this season and batted 1-for-5 with one RBI.   He will bat 7th for Trenton tonight at Akron.  Catcher Jeff Farnham has been activated from the disabled list.  Catcher Gustavo Molina (back stiffness), INF Rob Lyerly (shoulder stiffness) and INF Jose Pirela (precautionary measures) have all been placed on the disabled list.

--- END PRESS RELEASE ---

To get Rondon on the roster, the Yankees have promoted reliever Chase Whitley to Triple-A Scranton. This presumably has to do with Manny Banuelos going on the disabled list in Scranton.

Even with Mahoney in the fold, the Thunder will have to be very careful with their infielders. Currently, they have Ronnier Mustelier, Walter Ibarra, Mahoney, Addison Maruszak and David Adams, who is dealing with a stiff neck but is still active.

After all the transaction action, the Thunder are playing one man below the 25-player limit. That's especially interesting because of the possibility of Andy Pettitte pitching at Waterfront Park on Friday.

If Pettitte were to come to the Thunder, he'd do so, technically, as a regular minor leaguer and would need a roster spot. If he were a major league rehab, they could add him freely without worrying about roster space.
