Mikey O'Brien on his way to Trenton
Per his Twitter, right-hander Mikey O'Brien is on his way to Trenton.
Frankly, I was pretty surprised he wasn't here to begin the year. He spent the better part of last season with Trenton, but he was dealing with a hamstring issue during spring training, so that might have necessitated his staying in Florida.
Because he pitched three days ago, his turn lines up with that of Francisco Rondon, whose time in the rotation hasn't gone terribly well. Manager Tony Franklin also indicated yesterday that there was still a strong possibility that a move to Triple-A for Caleb Cotham was still in the works. I reported on Sunday that he was leaving, and was told that it was definitely in the plans at one point, but he never left.
So, doing some general managing in my head, here is what I think could happen: O'Brien comes to Trenton, Cotham heads to Triple-A, Rondon moves back to the bullpen. That would leave the Thunder with a rotation of:
1. Jose Ramirez
2. Nik Turley
3. Zach Nuding
4. Mikey O'Brien
5. Matt Tracy
That's obviously speculation outside of the O'Brien move, but it's what I think could (and frankly should) happen.
