Around the System - June 11

Triple-A: Charlotte 9, Scranton 5
Zach McAllister lost to Jeff Marquez in a battle of former Thunder starters. McAllister, in his first start back after experiencing soreness in his right forearm, allowed six earned runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings. Little rusty, it seems. Jesus Montero went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Eduardo Nunez, Juan Miranda and Chad Huffman -- who has been promoted to the Yankees -- had two hits apiece. Huffman also had two RBIs.

Double-A: Trenton 6, Binghamton 2
Lance Pendleton was brilliant, scattering five hits over seven innings while fanning nine and walking just one. The Rice alumnus hasn't allowed more than two earned runs since May 3, when he let up eight against Akron. The Thunder drew 10 walks, including three by Austin Krum, who also drove in two runs. Brandon Laird was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Kevin Mahoney and Dan Brewer doubled.

Zoilo Almonte was 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored, and the RiverDogs romped past the Suns. Slade Heathcott, Jimmy Paredes and Kyle Higashioka had two hits apiece. Kelvin Perez turned in an excellent outing, allowing just two hits over seven innings. He fanned four and walked three.

Dominican Summer League 1: Yankees 6, Nationals 4
Jorge Alcantara continued his early tear, going 1-for-1 with a longball, two runs scored and a walk. Overall, the 18-year-old is hitting .462/.571/1.648 with two doubles, five triples and four home runs through 12 games. Pretty damn impressive, if you ask me. Yeicok Calderon had two hits and an RBI. Isaias Alvarez picked up the win, and Melvin Croussett earned the save.

Dominican Summer League 2: Dodgers 12, Yankees 8
Elio De La Rosa was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, but the Yankees couldn't hold off Los Angeles' Dominican Leaguers. Ravel Santana and Fernando Perez had two hits apiece in the loss. Rafael Polo and Francisco Duran each collected a double.
